Programs & Services > Navigation Services

Receiving the news that you have an abnormal finding on a PAP smear or Mammogram can be a frightening experience. Even more frightening is learning that you have been diagnosed with cancer. However what happens within the first few days or weeks of diagnosis can be crucial for setting the stage for emotional well-being during treatment. The LGBT Women’s Health Program can provide support and guidance through the complex medical system and assist women in making inform choices by providing objective and credible medical information about current treatment options. The goals of the navigation services are to reduce anxiety, improve doctor patient communication, to assist in accessing provider resources and to reduce the time from diagnosis to initial treatment.

With early detection methods and current treatment options available, most women diagnosed with breast and cervical cancers will recover. We hope to aid in that recover by promoting the emotional well-being and social support system of the individual during the treatment and recovery process.
